Alternative splicing (AS) is an important cellular mechanism that leads to temporal and tissue specific expression of unique mRNA products. In some cases particular splice variants have been associated with human diseases.

  • Database of alternative splice forms
We developed a database of alternative splice forms. This database contains predicted splice variants for nine model organisms: Arabidopsis thaliana, Bos taurus, Caenorhabditis elegans, Danio rerio, Drosophila melanogaster, Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus, Xenopus laevis and Homo sapiens. The current release was built from the GenBank release #131.

  • Algorithm for predicting alternative splice forms
The Alternative Splice Database was created by an algorithm which defines a possible alternative splice form by comparing high-scoring ESTs to mRNA sequences using BLAST. Filtering programs compare the ends of each aligned sequence pair for deletions or insertions in the EST sequence, which suggest the existence of alternative splice forms.
